Shandong Provincial Library (new venue), well known for its long history and abundant collections, is one of the top 10 libraries in China. It was officially opened to public in October 2002, with a total construction area of 50,000 square meters.

The library holds 6.12 million volumes including some professional collections on light industry, medicine and philosophy, as well as some special documentaries, such as Qilu Local Chronicles, and the Yijing, often known in English as I Ching, the Book of Changes, forming a characterized and comprehensive collection system.

The library also provides services of lending, information retrieval, consultation,, translation, exhibitions and lectures. It has 44 service stations, with an average daily reception of 5, 000 visitors.

It also exchanges documents and literature works with Japan, North Korea, the United States and the United Kingdom.
